G’day and welcome to Xmas Down Under! It’s the start of summer holidays yet we watch endless replays of Santa bringing joy to Northern Hemisphere wood-fired houses while the snow falls outside. Unfortunately, the only “snow” you’ll find in Oz is produced in a can and sprayed on plastic trees! Christmas Eve (24 Dec.) the kids are tucked up early in bed and wait for Santa to come down the chimney (although most Aussie houses have no chimney!).
Christmas Day (Dec. 25) runs as follows:
6am kids wake up Mum and Dad and open presents under the tree.
10am kids are already sick from too much chocolate!
Midday big family BBQ in the park or at the beach. It’s 35°C, clothing consists of no more than shorts and flip-flops and there is plenty of sausages, steak and beer to be had.
Boxing Day (Dec. 26) It’s another BBQ day with friends and family. The Dad’s watch the cricket on TV and the kids test out their new toys.
