The SARF-Table

Note: Should you see a white field and no animation below this text, you will need to download a Macromedia-Flashplayer by clicking on the symbol to the right. The software is free and the download lasts less than a minute. It’s worth it!

SARF stands for STATIC - ALL-ROUND - REGULARITY - FACTS

SARF describes the areas to which this grammatical form is applied. Basically, you use this form when you describe static situations, facts, realities and regular occurrences such as „I live in Germany. I work in Munich.”.

You will find several action words/verbs in the table below. The first two columns represent the first verb form (present tense), the third column relates to the second verb form (past tense) and the fourth and fifth columns relate to the third verb form (past perfect).

 Dictionary: go went gone

5-Column-System:gogo went  gone   gone

Where do I get the explanations that correspond to the SARF table?
IIn the red Web site navigation bar, you will find the five tenses of English grammar. On each of these pages, we explain to you how to work with the table in each verb tense. You will find examples and the accompanying animation which will clarify how to use the system. If you click, for instance, on the individual pronouns such as “You” (see image to the right) you will automatically receive the correct sentence structure.
